Builders in Residence Program
Where cutting-edge research meets real-world impact.
As a public benefit corporation, Mozilla.ai maintains a dual mandate: promoting open AI technologies that benefit people while ensuring long-term organizational sustainability.
The Mozilla.ai Builders in Residence (BiR) Program serves both purposes by advancing open, applied cutting-edge research and connecting it with our product roadmap. Our residents help advance safety, evaluation, and agent design, work that flows directly into the Agent Platform and the open-source tools it is built on.
Program Format

Duration
3+ months per residency, with extension options based on project scope.

Structure
Full-time contractor arrangements with Mozilla.ai team integration.

Location
Fully remote with global participation (Americas and EMEA).

Collaboration
Direct partnership with Mozilla.ai's engineering and ML teams.

Focus Areas
Evaluation and validation methods for agent and multi-agent systems.
LLM/agent guardrailing.
Meta-learning for recommender systems (especially over complex, combinatorial spaces).
Efficient multi-agent communication (via prompt minimization, A2A language specialization and optimization, etc.).
Bring your own pitch! We welcome project ideas. Proposals should nevertheless align with our mission and focus to move forward.
UI/UX for collaboration between humans and multi-agent systems.
